OSCPA has endorsed Judges Pat DeWine and Patrick Fischer – as well as the unopposed Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor – for the Ohio Supreme Court in the Nov. 8 General Election.
“Our endorsed candidates are well qualified to serve on Ohio’s highest state court,” said Scott Wiley, CAE, president and CEO. “All three adhere to the important principles of judicial fairness and impartiality, and maintain a commitment to the rule of law.”
A 17-member Statewide Endorsement Screening Committee and the Society’s 17-member Executive Board separately evaluated the candidates.
Judge DeWine earns OSCPA’s endorsement because of his commitment to judicial restraint and his solid experience on the First District Court of Appeals and Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas. He impressed the committee with his history of favorable opinions that resulted in positive outcomes benefiting Ohioans.
Judge Fischer’s vast experience, including 25 years as a practitioner and six years on the First District Court of Appeals, along with his guiding philosophy of judicial restraint, earned OSCPA’s endorsement. The Society particularly appreciates his belief that judges should enforce the Constitution and statutes as written, and not make decisions based on personal views.
“The Ohio Society of CPAs has a long history of supporting candidates committed to fair and impartial decisions,” Wiley said. “Justice O’Connor and Judges DeWine and Fischer more than fit the bill and we’re pleased to endorse them.”
