Association lauds Ohio’s tort reform progress

OSCPA staff report

Ohio is one of only two states in the nation that has secured all of the major tenets of tort reform, according to the American Tort Reform Association.

The ATRA last month released the latest edition of its Tort Reform Record, which showed that Ohio and Colorado have achieved needed reform in:

  • Appeal bond reform
  • Attorney retention sunshine
  • Class action reform
  • Collateral source rule
  • Joint and several liability
  • Jury service reform
  • Noneconomic damages
  • Prejudgment interest
  • Product liability
  • Punitive damages

The Ohio Society of CPAs for more than two decades has been part of the leadership team of the Ohio Alliance for Civil Justice. During that time the alliance has worked to enact and protect these laws to bolster the state’s business climate and protect Ohioans and the businesses they own from lawsuit abuse.
