Crossing Bridges Series returns with compelling conversations on taboo topics

Sex, religion and politics: these are three of the topics we’re typically told not to discuss at work. And yet, they are important for organizations to address to ensure the culture they are building is one where people feel welcome and comfortable in bringing their authentic selves to the workplace. These topics are among the ones OSCPA will cover in its 2021 Crossing Bridges Series 2.0 - Essential Conversations.  Woman smiling for camera.

OSCPA Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Strategist Margaret Finley, CPEC, CDP, said this year’s series focuses on essential DE&I conversations around sensitive topics that will inspire participants and lead to intentional and thoughtful action. 

“Creating a workplace where people feel safe is one thing, but working to make it an accepting and inviting place for people to do their best work should really be the goal of any DE&I initiative,” Finley said. “At OSCPA, we are creating an environment for our Crossing Bridges program where people can explore these sensitive topics and then be prepared to incorporate what they’ve learned in the design of their own DE&I initiatives.” 

The program will feature a moderator and panelists as well as pre-work to prepare participants for the topics to be discussed. 

“We’re working to make this year’s series more interactive by using the pre-work to spark conversation. We’ll conclude each session with a commitment for each of us to incorporate what we’ve learned by taking the next right step,” Finley added. In addition, each session will explore how race intersects with the conversation topic to continue the conversation on racism.
