When frugality goes wrong

Written on Jul 31, 2020
Recently a member of the OSCPA team came across an article on readers sharing times when being frugal hasn't worked out, oftentimes with hilarious or embarrassing results.

We want to know: when has being frugal backfired for you?

In the spirit of camaraderie, we'll go first. For a while in college I bought the cheapest cheese I could find at the grocery store and was always left disappointed when it didn't taste like the delicious, perfect flavor I was hoping to enjoy. Instead, it tasted like nothing with a weird consistency to match. Ever since, I'm happy to pay a little extra to ensure my cheese is just as tasty as I want it to be.

Molly Ryan Kowaleski, content and community manager, said she and her husband learned their lesson after purchasing the cheap, singly ply toilet paper from Aldi.

"We went RIGHT back to Charmin and shoved that to the back of the cabinet, to be used only in emergencies," she recounted.

Alright, now it's your turn. Tell us your stories in the comments of when pinching pennies turned out terribly.
