This week’s CPA of Ohio is Taylor McGowen, CPA, Associate Vice President, Corporate Development Controller at Nationwide Insurance and member of OSCPA’s D+I Task Force.

When did you first know you wanted to be a CPA?

“During my freshman year at Miami University, I began my introductory business classes and was introduced to my first accounting class. Accounting and its applications to business really resonated with me. I knew it was something I wanted to do because having a solid foundation in accounting can open the door to so many opportunities in the business world.”

Is there any life advice someone’s given you that really resonated?

“From a business perspective, be curious and a continuous learner. When you’re able to do that, your work becomes more interesting and your impact is greater. That’s how you end up adding more value, specifically within our profession.”

What has been the highlight of your career?

“One of the things I love so much about what I do is the people aspect. I love everything on the talent spectrum, from engaging our teams and creating highly effective work environments to recruiting top diverse talent to helping people grow along their career.”
