Certified follows a group of aspiring CPAs on their journey to prepare for and take the CPA exam. This is part four of Kimberly Price’s story, which began in August 2016. Read the first parts here.

When you take an important test, you want to be on your A-game. Unfortunately for Kimberly Price, her immune system had other plans when she took the Business Environmental Concepts (BEC) section of the CPA examination. She felt sick almost the entire week before, only starting to feel better the morning of the test.

Kimberly Price“I felt really prepared, but just having the stomach bug right before kind of shakes your confidence a bit,” she said.

Price feels good about some answers and less so about others, but said overall that BEC went well.

“I feel fairly confident [I passed], but that always makes me nervous because when you feel confident is when you don’t do as well,” she said. “I’m not trying to psych myself out one way or the other.”

Now she has about a week until she finds out her results. If she passes, she plans to study for audit again. If she didn’t pass, she will retake BEC because the material will still be fresh in her mind.

“That way I can just keep pushing along and hopefully be closer to a passing grade,” she said. “I’ve got to get this done.”

Price said her coworkers continue to be supportive of her efforts, which has been helpful. Although she said she wishes she was further along in her progress, she’s focusing on each section at a time right now and trying not to stress about what’s left.
