ODT offers centralized collection tax alert

Written on Sep 28, 2017

The Ohio Department of Taxation announced Sept. 22 that it has added a new category to its Tax Alert system for the upcoming optional centralized filing system for municipal net profit taxes.

This summer the state’s biennial budget bill enacted measures CPAs have wanted for years to improve the state’s business environment. That includes optional centralized collection on municipal net profit taxes, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2018. Businesses will be able to file one municipal net profit tax return through the Ohio Business Gateway for processing by ODT. The department will handle all administrative functions for those centrally filed returns, distribute payments to the appropriate municipalities and handle audits and appeals.
